Ebanie Bridges a stripper for wearing lingerie at the weigh-in
There was a war of words at the weigh-in between IBF bantamweights Ebanie Bridges and Shannon O’Connell, and it all stemmed from Bridges’ choice of attire.
The two were on hand for a virtual showdown ahead of their title fight on Dec. 10 in Leeds, England.
The two are from Australia, but don’t expect them to share a few jumbo cans of Foster’s anytime soon.
During the event, O’Connell fired Bridges for wearing lingerie at weigh-ins and – in his view – setting back women’s boxing.
“I don’t like the way Ebanie approached things,” O’Connell said. “If you look back 10 years ago… (the female boxers) were never recognized, we went to all the amateur tournaments and tours, we paid our own way, there was no respect in the sports for women.
“You don’t think I worked hard just because I look a little different,” Bridges shot back. “What I do is not the same as you?” Are you saying I didn’t have it hard because I’m just a little different? »
“What, because you undress to be seen?” said O’Connell.
Oh. It is now.
Verbal Training Bridges and O’Connell (continued)
” I undress ? Sorry, how does everyone weigh?” Bridges, who moonlights as a financial dominatrix, retorted. She then pointed out that other women had come forward to weigh themselves in lingerie. O’Connell said it was only because she started the trend.
She is therefore a pioneer. It’s a bit of a weird snap, isn’t it?
“I’ve heard interviews where you say you grew up with strippers and stuff, and you wrap them up, now you act like one,” O’Connell said. “I have children. Imagine my 16 year old son going to school and all his buddies passing this photo of me around – there would be punches every day.
“And my daughter is 15, imagine her, I’m teaching her ‘hey, take your clothes off and you’ll have what you want in life’.”
The bridges fought back. “It’s so 1920s, telling women what to do.”
Great boxer and passionate about history. That’s Ebanie Bridges for you.
O’Connell went on to slam Bridges for becoming something of a social media sensation.
It certainly doesn’t seem like these two are seeing eye to eye. Maybe some of that animosity will carry over to the ring next month.
