Iskra Lawrence on lingerie shoots after becoming a mom

Iskra Lawrence shares a message about struggling with her identity now that she is a mother.

The model, 31, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share several photos of herself in jeans and a bodysuit, including one particularly “cheeky” photo. Lawrence wrote in the caption that it has been a challenge to return to these more provocative poses. Lawrence welcomed her first child, a son, with partner Philip Payne in April 2020.

“I hate that this is so hard to post. I swear becoming a mom comes with way more guilt and self-doubt than I ever imagined,” she wrote. “I’ve been a model for 18 years. Swimming and lingerie modeling will always be my career – being comfortable photographing my body and being confident in my sexuality has always come naturally. But now, as a mom, I feel this expectation of being fully clothed changes the way I pose and pay attention to my ‘image’ every day.”

She added, “Being proud of my curves, wearing comfy lingerie and swimwear, and posting whatever I want doesn’t mean I’m not a great mom.”

“Not all parts, past and present are mutually exclusive. I can be all me and so can you,” she continued. “If you’re struggling as a new mom, seasoned mom, career woman, or none of the above, but still feel that shame about showing/having body confidence, this is a reminder that you have full authority over your life and no one else or their expectations can change that.”

Despite Lawrence’s initial reservations about posting these photos, she received a lot of love in the comments section. One follower wrote, “You are so gorgeous and that beautiful body made another human!” Another added: “As [42-year-old] mother of two, we all do what we think is best for our family. Do what is good for [you]. You know what’s in your belly. As for showing off your figure. I beg you. You are stunning! You are a goddess and ANYONE who tries to say otherwise is just threatened by your energy!”

This isn’t the first time the model has tackled this particular problem. In July 2021, she shared a post on Instagram about changing her behavior in order to be seen as a good role model.

“Sometimes I regret how comfortable I was with my sexuality,” Lawrence wrote at the time. “As I was not ashamed of nudity and posing provocatively but in an unforced natural way. I cut myself off from a lot of things when I developed a platform, I started to feel the pressure from people who held me to a “role model” standard and expected me to be the perfect polished, well-honed human.”

She said she felt pressure to be “socially acceptable” online, but was now trying to “find the lost parts” of herself.
