Now is the perfect time to brighten up the exterior of your home. Keeping your lawn and garden tidy is a good start, but there are other possibilities to improve the curb appeal of your home.
For example, adding new exterior lighting options or applying a fresh coat of paint to your front door are some easy and inexpensive ways to update the look of your home.
Here are some other ideas for giving your home a new look:
Upgrade your front door
Chip Bolender of Mohler Lumber & Building Materials says a new door can make all the difference in updating the look of your home. “A common material choice is a wood door, but fiberglass doors are gaining popularity because of their low maintenance, durability and affordability. Fiberglass doors can be painted or stained so you can add your personal touch to your entryway. Buying a new door is not the only option. If you choose to paint your front door, be sure to choose an exterior paint so that the color can resist the elements and mildew.
Modernize your house numbers
The most important thing to remember when updating your house numbers is to make sure that they are easily visible and readable. While house numbers come in many different shapes and materials, choose a set that will stand up to the elements and not rust over time. When it comes to making a color choice, it’s best to choose numbers that contrast with your home’s exterior for added visibility. If you’re not sure where to place the numbers, find a spot outside your house where your eyes will immediately focus, which is usually right next to your front door.
Light up your home
“A simple cleaning of the current light fixtures and an upgrade of the bulbs can make a difference to the exterior of your home at night,” says Tom Rafferty of Lumen Nation.
“Most modern homes have a mix of exterior lights to create the ambiance of a home. The aisle lights are a practical addition to ensure that the aisles are easily seen at night. Entrance lights are important for safety and security and can add a stylish look to your door. If you want to showcase the architectural structure of your home, landscape lighting is a popular choice. In general, LED outdoor lighting is the best option due to its longevity and ability to emit warm and inviting light.
Add personal touches
Outdoor accessories can polish the exterior of your home. Replacing your doormat is an easy way to refresh your entryway. The best doormats are made of water and mildew resistant materials. If you have room in your entryway, a few chairs or a bench can also add an outdoor element to keep you entertained. If you’re shopping for outdoor furniture on a budget, the best time to find discounted items is at the end of summer, just in time for fall!
