Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, today announced the signing of the World and Olympic champion in the 100m butterfly Maggie MacNeil.

MacNeil joins the team Speedo after a successful year which saw her return from Tokyo with gold, silver and bronze medals – all of which were won wearing Speedo’s Fastskin wetsuits as part of the swimming brand sponsorship Canada.

The highlight was undoubtedly when MacNeil won gold in the women’s 100m butterfly as she set a personal best 55.59s, adding the crown to her world championship which she won in the same race in 2019. In the aftermath of the race Tokyo MacNeil, who wears goggles outside the pool, became a viral sensation as TV cameras caught her squinting to see the result, before realizing that she had won her first Olympic gold medal and starting to celebrate.

The day before that race, MacNeil was part of the Canadian relay team that won silver in the 4x100m freestyle and she followed that up with winning bronze in the 4x100m medley relay team.

Due to the impressive nature of her performances at the Games, the Association of National Olympic Committees named her “Tokyo 2020 Best Female Athlete.”

Talk about the agreement to join the team Speedo, MacNeil said, “I am truly honored and excited about this partnership with Speedo. Speedo is recognized as the world’s premier swimwear brand, but it’s their passion for life in and around water that resonates with me. We share the same passion for swimming and I look forward to working with them.

Jim gerson, President of Speedo USA, added: “Maggie has had a sensational 2021 and we are now very happy to officially welcome her to the Speedo team. Maggie has been a superb Speedo ambassador throughout the summer as she won one medal of every color in Tokyo while wearing our Fastskin suits and we really can’t wait to see what happens next. She is a remarkable athlete and a true role model for young female athletes around the world. Her talent and commitment means we are delighted to partner with her as she continues her remarkable progress in the world of competitive swimming.
