Windsor woman charged with attempted murder; tried to set fire to the house with underwear
October 11 – A local woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson stemming from a fire in Windsor.
Debra Annette Cushman, 60, of Windsor was arrested and charged on October 8 with two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson following an incident at a residence in Windsor, prison records show .
Police responded in reference to an arson fire that took place around 10:15 a.m. on the 400 block of Wren Road, according to an incident report from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Police made contact with the woman at the scene and she was arrested, according to the report.
Police also observed a house engulfed in flames and saw a local fire department at the scene.
Police also made contact with a male complainant, who was in the area and called 911 after seeing a burning house, the report said.
Police said the complainant entered the house to see if there were any victims inside the house.
The complainant at the scene directed police to two victims and identified Cushman as a suspect, according to the report.
One of the victims said the suspect set fire to a pair of underwear and tried to start a fire in the house, according to the report.
A male victim said he put out the fire, but the suspect went back inside the residence and locked it, according to the report.
The male victim told police he was inside the house with a female victim while the house was on fire.
The male victim told police the suspect then left the residence and did not know where the suspect went, according to the report.
A female victim told police the suspect was in trouble and that the suspect set the house on fire, according to the report.
Police obtained written statements from the victims before contacting another person who said the owner of the property was the father of a female victim, the report said.
Cushman was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center and has $15,000 bail.
On Tuesday, Cushman was on the detention center’s list of inmates.
