Wisconsin Basketball, seeded third in the Midwest Region, will face 14-seeded Colgate in Milwaukee | WFRV Local 5

Madison, Wis (WFRV) – Roars of happiness flooded the space the Wisconsin men’s basketball team had set up to watch the 2022 NCAA Draft Show and see what the committee would place them in the tournament. 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The Badgers captured a share of the Big Ten regular season title with Illinois and earned a third seed. They will take on 14th seed Colgate at Fiserv Forum on Friday, March 18.

“Happy for our fans, happy for our alumni that we’re in Milwaukee,” head coach Greg Gard said. “But when that ball goes up on Friday we have to be ready to play against a very good team.”

The Colgate Raiders are the 2022 Patriot League champions. They finished the season 23-11 overall, 16-2 in their conference and on a 15-game winning streak. The Badgers know they will have a big challenge ahead. As their head coach said, “bad teams are at home with their feet in the sand.”

“I think playing in front of our home team will allow us to move forward offensively, defensively,” first-year goaltender Chucky Hepburn said. “I’m excited for this.”

The Badgers finished their season 24-7 overall, 15-5 in conference and on a two-game losing streak. Wisconsin fell in the regular season finale to Nebraska, then lost in its Big 10 tournament opener to Michigan State. According to Tyler Wahl, having the chance to play at home calmed some of the Badgers’ nerves.

“I think we got a really good draw, we’re going to play close to home,” Wahl said. “It’s definitely part of the game when you have a big part of the stadium full of your fans. You can definitely lean on them. Get emotion and energy from them.
